This is #6 of our Workshop release and final Workshop release of 2022.

Mencía? Yes, you read that correctly. It is pronounced men-thee-ah. It is a rather fun grape to say and has to be said out loud to fully appreciate it. We like to add a little extra emphasis to the “thee” section just for fun. Men-THEE-ah!

We expect this to be a new wine for really anyone other than Brad, Greg, and Zach. We have been drinking Mencía from Spain for years now, but have not been able to find any from California. For good reason, there is little to none grown here. To our understanding, Nolan Ranch is the first vineyard on the central coast to plant this grape and we were chosen by the vineyard manager to work with this block. We could not be more grateful for the opportunity.

What does it taste like? Those of you that are familiar with our GSM blend and Nolan Ranch Gamay will surely love this wine. It is quite possibly the darkest color wine we made in 2021, but don’t let that fool you. It has the freshness of our Gamay and the spice and complexity of our GSM. We truly could not be happier with how our first attempt at making Mencía could have turned out. The bar is set rather high.

This wine can be chilled in the fridge for 15-20 before serving or can be enjoyed at room temperature. There really is no wrong way to drink this wine!
